CANTON, S.D. — Lee Bumgarner of Team Kaos/Alegent Health won the omnium at the Canton Cycling Classic over the weekend, securing the season victory in the inaugural Midwest Flyover Omnium Race Series.
The Lincoln, Neb., resident won the Saturday afternoon criterium and survived a hot, windy road race on Sunday to take the crown.
Leah Kleager (Midwest Cycling Community) won the Canton criterium on Saturday as well. She finished second overall in the series. Jeremiah Grell (Flatwater Cycling) claimed second place in the Cat. 3 season series.
PAPILLION, Neb. — Michael Sencenbaugh (Sakari Racing) broke free from a six-man breakaway on the final lap to win the Pro/1/2 race at the Papillion Twilight Criterium on Saturday night.
The diminutive Sencenbaugh blasted away from the lead group just as the bell was ringing for the final lap and held on to take a race that featured a number of punches and counterpunches before the final move stuck. Joe McWilliams (Team Kaos/Alegent Health) took third while Adam Mills (Think Finance/Trek Bicycle Stores) finished third.
In the Men's Cat. 3 race, Jeremiah Grell (Flatwater Cycling) claimed his second win in as many days. He followed Friday's solo victory in Bellevue by jumping away from a three-man break to take the win. John Frey (Bike America) was second while Adam Ventling (American Equity Racing) was third. Grell's teammate, Luke Sykora, took the field sprint for fourth.
Leah Kleager (Midwest Cycling Community) took the win in the Women's open race. Teammate Catherine Walberg was second, followed by Emily Skiles (Greenstreet Velo).
