LINCOLN, Neb. — Mark Savery powered away from a three-man break on Sunday to take the Nebraska state Cat. 1/2 cyclocross championship at Pioneers Park.
Savery, a Lincoln native, was off the front early, along with Midwest Wheelmasters/Velogear.com teammate Matt Tillinghast, Jeff Kluck (Powerade/Independent Fabrication) and Matt Farnham (Team Kaos/Alegent Health). After Farnham fell off the pace, Savery took charge and pushed the pace.
After a bobble by Tillinghast, Savery attacked and put a gap between himself and Kluck. With one lap to go, Savery was 30 seconds up on Kluck, who was 30 seconds up on Tillinghast. Behind Tillinghast, Farnham was holding off Nate Woodman (Monkey Wrench Cycles).
Savery rolled across the line alone for his second win of the season. Savery is also contesting the US Grand Prix of Cyclocross series, in which he is currently fifth in the Masters 35-plus category.
